Anyone have any joy on the seatrout front so far this year as they are as scarce as hen's teeth all along the East Coast. They just don't seem to be around. I know there's little or no water and we had a very cold spring but it's getting ridiculously late at this stage. Maybe others have found a few around.
I've only managed the one around 1.5lbs last tuesday evening while nymphing for brown trout and have heard of one other fish being caught they are very scarce or non-existent in a lot of river systems so far this year.

There's plenty of seatrout in some cork rivers since April but it seems to be all on the smaller a rivers. Was up the lee last night and didn't see one seatrout but a river coming into the lee is full of them A few of us are heading to Wales next week and it seems really slow there too no schooliies there yet which I'd hard to understand The lads said its been the worst in their life for runs of fish I had about 150 seatrout in the sea last year from a certain spot in the harbour this year I had only ten or so

Ya as Ger says it seems the smaller river are getting good runs. Some coming up, and going through, on the Bandon but still haven't seen a proper shoal of trout. More salmon then trout running. Reading the Slaney is wicked slow also. Confident they're just late and nothing sinister happening, just a pity there's not more around now as its the driest summer we've had in a long time and the most suitable for night time fly fishing!

I honestly don't know how that river gets fish every year, it's raped every single day by gangs of people using paste or nets or strokehauling It's a absolute disgrace really

Sounds shocking. It would be great if that place was just taken by the scruff of the neck. Of course hard to do, but surely not impossible.

Finally got some white lads last night, a long wait but worth the effort. Had some absolutely ferocious thumps to those that know what these are like. That's the expectation with seatrout fishing, the thumps, lifting the rod and finding yourself stuck into a fish or connecting with thin air. Lost a cracker of a fish too, took to the air straight off and landed back on the water like a cow. Run in with an otter swimming down a run I was fishing, frightened the shite out of each other, and nearly had a bat hit me in the face. Oh, the excitement of night-time seatrout fishing.

Good stuff beads what river was it in the west, east, north south of the country? Off to Wales myself in the morning not looking forward to it this year because of the conditions, there's nothing like a thump from a seatrout in the dead of night nothing beats it

East coast river, dead low though, don't know how they're getting up but sure they run over stones. Best of luck in Wales, heard it's extremely tough everywhere, season way behind normal. Pray for rain over there. Back out again tonight lower down the river, hopefully get plenty of thumps and connect with one or two.

Well there's more white lads coming in every day now, I managed 4 on Sunday night. None last night but had plenty of plucks and brought up a number of good fish to surface lures, hooked none though but exciting stuff. I think they can feel that there's rain on the way as lots of fish in the lower end ready to run but not taking freely yet. Once the rain comes we'll have mighty sport.
