A friend and me fished the Nore and Erkina at Durrow yesterday and had some superb sport on nymphs and dries and even fishing wets downstream on the way back. We had over 50 trout between the two of us. We fished the Nore just outside Durrow, parked at the wood entrance and fished hard up to Durrow. Trout were hard to find with very few in the streams and runs where they usually are at this time of year. The cold spell means they haven't dispersed out along the river yet. But we still hit plenty of trout. We then fished up the Erkina from where it joins the Nore and had great sport on the dries. There was a few large dark olives coming off but not in huge numbers. We still managed to catch quality trout to 1.5lbs on nymphs and over 2lb on dries. I lost a whopper 3lb+ fish on the dries. Broke me off on the first run, only fishing 2lb tippet (0.08mm), still managed fish to over 2lb+ though. There's pigs of trout in the flats. Anyone asks, I don't have pics, don't do pics, too busy fishing If you can get down here, give it a go, at €15 a day you'll get great trout fishing and it will get better when the weather warms up.
