was fishing the blackie last week and ian powell mentioned to me that all kelts must be logged into the logbook, he was saying glenda was fishing with a few guests in ballyhooley and the fishery board were watching from the bridge and when they saw the guests catching and releasing kelts they then asked to see the logbook and wanted to fine them (im sure they did in the end)
after reading k-speys post on the salmon forum he is saying the same so it must be true lol, i thought ian was winding us up

Ridiculous...going to be a few hundred springers caught on most rivers so according to the catch stats 2013!!

Its true alright, the angler was from Northern Ireland and apparently was fined €150 on the spot. I don't know of anyone who records slats on the log book. If they want us to record them, then there should be a column for them as well, in order to indicate that they are not spring fish.

Not sure, from what I've heard its been that way for a while. Never came across this before though. I know there is a meeting being held this week to discuss the matter, so we will see what happens, but the literal interpretation of the rules would suggest that ALL fish are recorded, which will give a distorted figure.

The log books would be full in 2 weeks with kelts lol as someone says they should have a section for them on it if they want them filled in

Don't get this, recording KELTS, whos to say that the kelt that you get this spring was not recorded as a clean fish of 2012 that got released  ?? were is the lodgic in this recording 2012 fish in 2013 records. |

Makes sense orca,it would be worth contacting the ifi about this issue.I have caught kelts in the past on the opening day of the drowes in front of fisheries officers and not filled in my log book,they never even asked a thing about it. |

Appeal of €150 fine for not recording a returned Kelt.
This incident was appealed by me and a meeting was held yesterday with
the chief inspector and the regional manager of the IFI. The €150 fine
stands for not recording the returned kelt. This fine was paid on the
river bank by the licence holder. After payment the rod was almost taken
aswell by the fishery officer, but thankfully we got to keep it so that
the client could continue to fish for the day. I have told the tourist
that I will refund it to him on his next trip to the country.
I advise you to contact IFI Macroom if you have any further questions on this incident or law.

Reddie, He didn't have to hand over his money on the spot. He choose to so that he could keep his rod and to continue to fish. After this the fisheries officers were still unsure if they should take his rod or not!
